Olive Oil: A Simple Beauty Secret

Olive Oil: A Simple Beauty Secret

Olive oil contains nutrients that may help nourish and soften skin. It has antioxidants that can help moisturize the skin as well as vitamin E that effectively prevent free-radicals and protect against wrinkles, aging, and inflammation.

Below are several beauty hacks we can do with olive oil.

Scrub and Exfoliator

Exfoliation is all about removing dead skin cells in order to better absorb skincare into the skin. For a soothing and moisturizing boost, add a few drops of olive oil to your usual scrub. Alternatively, we can also make our own all-natural scrub by mixing a half cup of olive oil, half a cup of brown sugar, and a few drops of a favorite essential oil together in a bowl.

Lip Scrub

For this, we need to combine coarse sugar with a teaspoon of olive oil for a chapped-lip fix. A splash of lemon juice can also be added as a flavoring and potency because of its acidic exfoliating properties.

Super Moisturizer

Olive is one of the ideal moisturizers for all skin types. This is because of its phenolic compounds which were found to possess antibacterial properties. It can quickly be absorbed by the skin to naturally hydrate it. Simply apply a small amount of olive oil after a shower, then allow it to absorb into the skin before applying another layer of skincare. Doing this will lock in moisture without clogging pores or causing breakouts. What’s more? Well, it’s also budget-friendly!

Eczema Remedy

Olive oil is popularly used as an intense moisturizer. It works great as an all-over treatment for extra-dry skin. Since it’s natural, it’s the ideal pick for eczema and more.

Eye-Makeup Remover

Olive oil can easily remove long-lasting makeup and has the extra benefit of acting as a mini facial treatment, infusing the skin with moisture and antioxidants. It works by grabbing onto other oil-based products, making it a great pre-cleansing step to remove stubborn eye makeup. Follow it up with warm water and a pH-balanced face wash.

Hair Revitalizer

The use of an olive oil pre-shampoo treatment is one of the best ways of naturally reversing the effects of hair damage. Its vitamin E content hydrates the hair while its antioxidant properties protect the hair from free radicals which are known to cause hair loss.

Take a few tablespoons of plain olive oil and massage it directly onto the scalp and hair. Leave it on for 30 minutes. Shampoo as usual. Doing this weekly will make the hair healthier, stronger, and shinier.
